Education is an important subject, that’s a given. But how we receive that scholastic knowledge is an argument waiting to happen.
Everyone wants their child to be brilliant but our school system in the USA is lacking. “From 2006 to 2016 overall average SAT scores fell a total of 34 points, down in each of the three sections tested.” All data is taken from the College Board Total Group Profile Reports (from 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, 2020, and 2021).
In fact, in 1972, Math SAT scores were 509 and Critical Reading was 530. In 2016 Math 508 and Critical Reading was 494. Granted the scores fluctuated yearly between the framed time but overall our educators, through their product’s scores, have only managed to stay equal or lesser than past SAT scores.
Should we take funds away from organized education when parents homeschool their children? Should we pay parents to educate their children to be a contribution in society? Or, should we even pay government and parents to instruct the youth of our society?
Homeschooling has demostrated the ability to enlighten children on a faster level than public and private educational facilities. Lawrence Rudner completed a study titled “Scholastic achievement and demographic characteristics of home school students in 1998.
Major findings of Mr. Rudner’s research paper on more than 20,000 students include: “the achievement test scores of this group of home school students are exceptionally high–the median scores were typically in the 70th to 80th percentile; 25% of home school students are enrolled one or more grades above their age-level public and private school peers.. “
As teachers, which includes all adults, we have not given more to our children. We have given them less. “I want to give my children more than I had when I was growing up” should not be materialistic in nature. It should be skills and education.
